Maleficant stood on the hillside, looking down on the small town below. Even from the distance she stood at she could still hear the town's celebration of Halloween. She smiled coldly and waved her staff a sickly green fog settled down over it.
The dancers stopped mid step as they fell asleep, the street venders curled up with their muffins and sweets, the trick o' treaters napped on the doorsteps of the houses the called on as the entire town fell into the enchanted sleep.
The snores and the sleepy sighs were cut off by gasps and moans as the town's dreams turned darker. Monsters from under the bed, familiar ghosts stories, and personal demons all came to life. Murmurs of “it's just a dream” did nothing to wake the villagers from their dreams.
Maleficant made her way through the town that only minutes before had been alive and vibrant. A cold hard smile graced her face as the whimpers of the children countered the sobs and wails of the adults as they all tried to free themselves of the nightmare that held them – The fairy laughed at the knowledge that the spell would only be broken when the first rays of dawn touched the town. Until then they were trapped in their nightmares, their screams warming Maleficant's black heart.
Happy Halloween.
